Which social network for your kind of business?
You don’t have to be everywhere. Pick the one network where your clients actually are, and do it well. Here’s how to find it.
Do you feel guilty for not posting on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and all the rest at the same time? Stop right now. Trying to be everywhere is the best way to be nowhere: you burn out, you post half-heartedly, and nothing takes off. The truth is that one well-chosen, well-worked network beats five abandoned accounts.
Follow your clients, not the trend
The only question that matters is: where are your clients? Not where the current trend is, not where other entrepreneurs are, but where the people who will actually buy from you are. A caterer, a hair salon and a management consultant don’t find their people in the same place. Choose the network based on your own clientele, not on what’s making noise.
Every business its own ground
Each platform has its personality and its audience. Does your trade have beautiful things to show, or rather ideas to explain? Is your clientele local, or scattered? Is it the general public or other businesses? Those answers point you to the right ground: the one where your content naturally belongs and where your people are already looking for you.
- Facebook: great for local commerce and an established clientele near you.
- Instagram: perfect when your trade is visual. Think food, beauty, crafts, décor.
- LinkedIn: the right place if you sell to other businesses or offer professional services.
- TikTok or others: worth considering only if your clientele is truly active there.
One living account beats five abandoned ones
A client who finds your page and sees your last post was eight months ago wonders whether you’re still in business. Conversely, a single living account, where you regularly post something useful, inspires confidence. Focus your energy in one place: you’ll keep up the pace, and it will show.
You don’t need to be everywhere. You need to be where your clients are, and to be truly present there.
And your site stays your home base
Whatever network you choose, remember it’s lent to you, not given. Use it to get known, then always bring people back to your site, your own home. That’s where you control your message, gather contacts, and where nothing can take your spot away from you overnight.
If you’re not sure where your clients are or where to start, write me. We’ll look at it together, choose the one network that makes sense for your business, and make sure it points back to your site.
