Understand your visitors without drowning in numbers
You don’t need a hundred charts. Three or four numbers are enough to know if your site works for you. Here they are.
When people mention “website statistics,” many entrepreneurs check out: dashboards stuffed with curves, obscure terms, a hundred numbers that mean nothing. The truth is you can ignore 95% of it. A few simple indicators are enough to answer the only real question: is my site bringing me clients?
Traffic: how many people come
The first number is how many visitors you get. Not for vanity, but to see a trend: is it rising, month over month? Also look at where they come from: Google, social media, direct word of mouth. That tells you what’s working to get you known, and so where to keep putting your effort.
- How many visitors, and the trend over time.
- Where they come from: Google, social media, direct links.
- Which pages they look at most.
- How many take action: call, message, booking.
Popular pages: what really interests people
Which pages your visitors view most tells you a lot. If one specific service draws everyone, feature it even more. If a page you thought was important interests no one, question it. Your visitors tell you, through their clicks, what they’re looking for. It’s up to you to listen and adjust your site accordingly.
The only number that truly counts: actions
A thousand visitors who do nothing are worth less than ten who call you. The most important number is how many people take action: fill your form, click to call, book. That’s conversion. A site with few visitors that converts well beats a heavily visited site where nobody moves.
Measure what earns you money, not what flatters you. One client is worth more than a thousand passing visitors.
Stay privacy-friendly
You can understand your visitors without spying on them. Privacy-friendly analytics tools give you the essentials (trends, sources, popular pages) without tracking people or forcing an annoying cookie banner on you. Better for your visitors, simpler for you, and perfectly enough to make decisions.
If you want us to hook up simple, honest analytics on your site, and above all look together at what they’re telling you, write me. Understanding three good numbers beats drowning in a hundred, and it guides every improvement.
