Why I made my site builder completely free

A tool to build your site, no account, no card, and you leave with your code. No catch. Here’s the real reason behind it.

By Jean-François Gauthier

When I tell people CJFG Studio is free (really free, no account, no credit card, and you leave with your own code), the first reaction is often suspicion. “What’s the catch?” There isn’t one, and I get the reflex: we’ve been trained to expect “free” to mean “we’ve got you hooked on something.” Here’s why I chose the opposite.

Too many people are stuck at the starting line

I’ve watched dozens of talented entrepreneurs put off their site for years because they were waiting to “have an agency budget” or because a quote scared them off. Meanwhile, their business ran with no online presence, invisible on Google, letting clients slip by. That bothered me. The web shouldn’t be a paid club reserved for those who already have money.

A tool that makes you independent, not dependent

Most site builders let you build for free… until you want to go live or export. Then you have to pay, every month, forever, and you never own anything. The Studio does the opposite: you build, you export your real code, and it’s yours. You can host it wherever you like, even without me. It’s a gift with no strings attached.

  • No account, no credit card to start.
  • You export your complete code: HTML, CSS, images.
  • You host it wherever you want, you owe me nothing.
  • Your project belongs to you, from day one to the last.

My bet: trust before the invoice

So why do this, if it earns nothing right away? Because I believe a business that starts today with a clean site is a business that will grow. And one day, it’ll want to go further: a shop, a booking system, deeper SEO. That day, it’ll think of the person who helped it for free at the start. I’m betting on the relationship, not the trap.

I’d rather help you start for free and see you again in two years than charge you a lot today and never see you again.

It’s part of my mission

My goal isn’t to sell as many sites as possible. It’s for local small businesses here (the corner garage, the hairdresser, the caterer, the tradesperson) to stop being invisible online against the big machines. A free, honest tool is my way of putting everyone at the starting line, whatever the budget.

So go ahead, try it, owing me nothing. If one day you want to delegate or push further, I’ll be there, with clear prices. But even if that day never comes, I’ll be glad to have helped you exist on the web. That’s already a win.
