One page per town you serve

Work in several towns? A genuine, distinct page per area helps you show up locally, as long as you do it honestly, not as a page factory.

By Jean-François Gauthier

You’re a plumber in Trois-Rivières but you also travel to Shawinigan and Bécancour? Or you offer your services across a dozen municipalities around you? When someone searches “plumber in Shawinigan,” Google wants to show a result that really talks about Shawinigan. If your site only mentions your main town, you miss all those people. The solution: a genuine page for each town you serve.

Why a single page isn’t enough

Google ties pages to specific places. A page that repeats your main town’s name ten times won’t help someone in the next town find you. By creating a dedicated page for each area, you give Google, and above all the client, a place that speaks to their own reality. It’s the difference between “we cover the region” and “yes, I come to you, in Shawinigan.”

A real page, not an empty one

Beware the easy temptation here: copy-pasting the same page ten times, changing only the town name. Google sees that coming, and it can even hurt you. A good local page is one with real content specific to that place. It takes a bit of work, but that’s what makes the difference between a page that helps and a page that gets ignored.

  • A word about your real connection to that town or area.
  • The services you offer there, and any local specifics.
  • A testimonial or a project done nearby, if you have one.
  • Practical info: travel times, neighbourhoods covered, availability.

Stay honest: truly serve those towns

The golden rule is honesty. Only create a page for a town you actually serve. Manufacturing pages for fifty municipalities you’ll never set foot in, just to catch traffic, always ends up backfiring, with Google and with disappointed clients alike. Five solid, genuine pages beat fifty hollow ones.

An honest local page says one simple thing: “Yes, I come to you, and I know your area.” That’s what converts.

Start small and grow

No need to do it all at once. Start with the two or three towns where you want the most clients, write real pages, and see how it moves. You’ll add the other areas over time. Each well-made page becomes one more doorway into your business, without you having to pay for advertising.
