A professional email with your domain name
[email protected] inspires ten times more trust than [email protected]. Here’s why, and how to get it.
You’ve got a nice site at yourbusiness.com, but you still send your quotes from [email protected]? That sends a signal, and not the right one. An email on your own domain ([email protected]) makes you look established, serious and permanent. It’s one of the smallest investments with one of the biggest returns in credibility. Here’s how it works.
Why it changes perception
Put yourself in the client’s shoes. They get two quotes: one from [email protected], the other from [email protected]. Which one looks like a real business? We judge in a fraction of a second, often without realizing. An address on your domain says “I’m here to stay,” and that reassures before they even read your message.
- More credible: you look like an established business.
- Consistent: your address and site share the same name.
- Yours: you keep your emails even if you switch providers.
- Less spam: branded addresses pass filters more easily.
What you need
Two ingredients: your domain name (which you already have for your site) and an email service that accepts custom domains. Solutions like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 do this very well, with the Gmail or Outlook interface you already know. Budget a few dollars a month per mailbox, the price of a coffee to look ten times more professional.
How you connect it
The idea is like the site: you add your domain in the email service, it gives you a few values to copy (DNS records, one of them called MX), and you paste them where your domain is registered. These settings tell the web “email for this domain, route it over here.” Once in place, you write and receive as usual, but from your nice address.
Your domain is your address AND your mailbox. Use both: the site to be found, the email to be taken seriously.
A few useful addresses to create
No need for ten. A main address like info@ or yourname@ is enough to start. As you grow, you add addresses by function (billing@, service@) without changing anything on your site. And above all, keep control of the account: like the domain, your mailbox should be under your name, not a middleman’s.
It’s the kind of setup that takes half an hour once, and serves you every day after. If you’d rather not touch DNS settings, I handle it along with your site. Write me and you’ll be sending your next emails from your own address.
